PHOTOGRAPHS: BURNHAM-ON-SEA & HIGHBRIDGE AREA
Once owned by King Alfred of Wessex, Burnham today is loved by locals and visitors alike for its seven miles of unbroken sandy beach and vistas out over the sea to the Quantocks and Exmoor beyond. Though owning the shortest pier in Britain, Burnham boasts no less than three lighthouses – one on “stilts” on the beach, another set on the busiest B road in the country – now that’s an anomaly!
The neighbouring town of Highbridge has been an agricultural centre for centuries and was home to Frank Foley who rescued thousands of Jews in the second world war. The natural heritage in the surrounding Levels, as well as the pretty villages, cultural towns (Taunton, Wells, Bath and Bristol all nearby) in addition to the local hills of the Mendips and Quantocks make pleasing memories for both locals and visitors. Here is a selection of colour photographic images. Many more photos of Burnham, Highbridge and the surrounding area are available from our photo bank.
The images are available to hang in the following sizes: Mini (15x10cm), Small (20x15cm) or Medium (30x20cm). Sizes given are approximate and excluding mount and frame. Or, the photographic images can be processed into cards, notelets or calendars. Alternatively, you might want to commission a photo to be painted.
