ABOUT THE ARTIST
Tim was born in the historic port and market town of Bridgwater in Somerset, but grew up in Burnham-on-Sea on the Bristol Channel. The sunsets witnessed here over the water and seven miles of unbroken sands won the admiration of Turner, supposedly inspiring his work.
With the Quantock Hills (England's first area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), the Mendips (encompassing Cheddar Gorge and England's smallest city Wells), the Somerset Levels (with World Heritage Protection status due to its natural history), along with other beauty spots surrounding the town, it is not surprising that the area is a magnet for artists and photographers, including Tim. Much of his inspiration derives from the local area, which he feels passionate about, especially as his relatives have had a long background of farming in the area. Thus, agricultural buildings, pastoral scenes and animals find expression in his work.
"To paint a bit of country, one has got to know it"
-Gustave Courbet, French Painter
For a while, Tim lived in Ireland's west coast wilderness. The rugged, unspoiled, even melancholy beauty here you will also see features prominently. After a further stay in Down in the North, Tim has now returned to Burnham and, after marrying, lived in an old fisherman's cottage, now living on the site of old Rosewood Farm. Among other interests, he enjoys hillwalking, gardening and local history.
Both his grandmother and great grandmother were accomplished artists and this talent has been handed down through the generations. In addition to his nan's tuition and the self-taught method, Tim has more recently honed his skills through various courses and has had his work publicly exhibited. Tim worked for a number of years in technical drawing. He enjoys pursuing art in situ, as well as from self-taken photographs, using mediums such as pencil, charcoal, pastels, acrylics, pen and ink, oils and watercolours.
You will find examples of his work on the subsequent pages. We feel sure you will enjoy what you see, and if there are any special requests, please feel free to enquire.
